DATE On August 24, 2021

“You're never too old to learn,” says Rockford Career College graduate Constance Gulley. Constance gained useful knowledge and skills for a healthcare career by earning her diploma in medical assisting. However, she did not stop there. After graduation, Constance enrolled in our healthcare administration program as well. We are so proud of her for earning her Associate of Applied Science degree and taking her career to the next level!

What You Learn in a Healthcare Administration AAS Program

Our medical assistant program is designed to provide students with relevant, in-demand skills. Our AAS programs go beyond by allowing students to complete an advanced level of course work in their
chosen field and develop general education skill sets in areas such as English, history, and math. For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the healthcare administration associate degree program, Constance took courses such as: Healthcare Systems and Practice in the U.S., Digital Communication Strategies, and Technical and Professional Issues in Allied Health.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Healthcare demands, costs, supplies, and recipients; customer-focused healthcare practices; the organizational structure of various healthcare settings; the concept of managed care; and foundational principles of professional communication and performance
  • The appropriate formats, styles, and protocols for communicating through various electronic media, including email, fax, social media, and file uploads/downloads; the use of digital communications in various business applications, including marketing, promotion, fundraising, and other processes; and the legal, ethical, privacy, and security implications associated with all forms of electronic communication
  • Current issues facing the allied health disciplines, including reimbursement policy, scope of practice, educational criteria, credentialing, professional encroachment, medical errors, interdisciplinary teams, and current data software

In addition to healthcare administration-specific subjects, Constance completed general education courses such as History of American Government and Written Communications to fulfill associate degree requirements.

How Our Graduate Entered Healthcare Administration

Like Constance, you too could enter healthcare administration in just a matter of months and start your career journey in this interesting and necessary profession. Our AAS program is designed for students who already have 52 credits in a healthcare administration-related field.
