We Proudly Present Diagnostic Medical Sonography Graduate Cherish Coates
DATE On July 16, 2021

Cherish Coates wanted a career that served others and not just herself. She firmly believed in these words from Dr. Tony Evans: “When you realize God's purpose for your life isn't just about you, He will use you in a mighty way.” For Cherish, becoming a diagnostic medical sonographer was the perfect way to help her community. By staying focused on this goal and working hard, Cherish graduated on the Dean's List with her associate degree. All of us at Rockford Career College are proud of Cherish's success and believe you could accomplish your professional goals, too.

What You Learn in a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program

For each graduate highlight, we select three different courses to spotlight. During the program, Cherish took courses such as: Ultrasound Physics, Pathophysiology, and Introduction to Vascular Sonography.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • The parameters of both pulsed wave and continuous wave, components of the ultrasound system, transducer types and architecture, ultrasound modalities, sound tissue interaction, ultrasound artifacts, biological effects, preventative maintenance, the ALARA principle, and knobology and instrumentation in a laboratory environment
  • The functions, integration and coordination of cells; cellular responses to injury; inflammation; healing and its complications; immunopathology; neoplasia; and pathogenesis of cancer
  • The anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, with emphasis on extracranial arterial, extremity venous and arterial, and abdominal vasculature

Cherish also completed general education courses such as College Math and Life Science to meet associate degree requirements. Hands-on practice in the lab, coupled with externships in clinical settings, allowed Cherish to develop the practical skills necessary for her new career.
