What You Learn in a Paralegal Studies Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Candida took courses such as: The Legal System and Terminology, Evidence, and Contract Law. 

In these courses, she learned about:

• The basics of the law, legal profession, and role of the paralegal; various areas of law and their required elements; and legal terminology
• Evidentiary law, with focus on the role, gathering, and types of evidence; the concepts of admissibility, relevancy, competency, and credibility; and specific evidentiary rules and their exceptions
• Contract law, concentrating on types of contracts, contract formation, capacity to contract, contract legality, contract performance, discharge, and contract elements; breach of contract, remedies for breach, and the defenses to these claims; and Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code and statutory regulation of contracts

These courses, coupled with a paralegal externship/capstone, allowed Candida to effectively prepare for her future as a paralegal.
