“Your power is in your knowledge,” says Rockford Career College graduate Terry Wadington. “The more knowledge you obtain, the more power you have to make a difference.” Once he was ready for a new career, Terry did not hesitate to gather all the knowledge he could. After enrolling in our Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology program, he studied carefully and developed his practical skills. His dedication allowed him to graduate on our President's List with a 4.0 GPA. We are so proud of Terry for achieving his educational goal and beginning a career he loves.

Saraliz Jimenez is proud to be our Online Student Services Officer. She has 20 years’ worth of experience in higher education and comes from College of DuPage. Saraliz started her education career as an admissions representative. For the last 6 years, Saraliz has been advising and mentoring students as the manager of the Latino Outreach Center. She was recognized by our former Lieutenant Governor as a community leader and completed a master's degree in counseling from National Louis University. Saraliz grew up in the USA but is originally from Venezuela. She assists our online students by providing them with access to the educational resources and guidance they need at home.

In the late 1800s, “despite restrictions in some states, children as young as 5 or 6 toiled in mills, factories and mines across the country.” Many Americans “often faced extremely unsafe working conditions, with insufficient access to fresh air, sanitary facilities and breaks. On September 5, 1882, 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City, holding the first Labor Day parade in U.S. history.
