Graduate Highlight - Veterinary Technician - Alexis Shearer

One raccoon. That was all it took to change Alexis Shearer's fate. When a young raccoon's mother passed away and there was no rehabilitation center in the county to take him, Ms. Shearer stepped in to help. It was then that she knew helping animals was her passion.
 
“When he was about ten months old, he got sick, and no vet would see him within three hours of us,” Ms. Shearer recounts. “I ended up saving him when no vet would. He went on to be happy and healthy and is in the wild. He made me want to make a difference and specialize in wildlife.”
 

Graduate Highlight - Veterinary Technician Program - Grace Brown

Are you a risk-taker? While jumping into a new career may seem daunting, taking the initial plunge is necessary for making great accomplishments. Grace Brown is one recent Rockford Career College graduate who found that taking the risk was worthwhile.
 
Ms. Brown's desire to provide outstanding care for animals led her to RCC. While enrolled in the veterinary technician program, she faced several challenges, one of which was the passing of her grandmother. “She was my best friend,” says Ms. Brown.
 

Graduate Highlight - Welding Program - Paige Kroschel

Have you ever been uncertain if a job was right for you? Many consider welding to be a male-oriented career, but there are plenty of opportunities for women to thrive in this trade. Fast growth in the trades has inspired women like Paige Kroschel to explore this career path. Ms. Kroschel graduated from Rockford Career College's welding program this month and is ready to begin her new dream job.

“At my lowest point I was homeless and expecting my youngest child with a toddler.  I am not only the first high school graduate in my family, I am also the first to attend college.  As a mother of two daughters, it is the duty given to me from God to be a witness of how good He is all the time and how he can provide above and beyond all expectations.  Now I am an ordained minister, working to eventually go to N.I.U. (Northern Illinois University), DeKalb School of Law.”
