Why choose welding training at RCC? Our wonderful instructors, like Bill Isham, are dedicated to helping you achieve your goals. Bill is a caring, experienced welding professional who has this story to share with potential students:

In my early twenties, I found myself trapped at a great job with excellent pay and amazing benefits like a retirement plan, vacation time, and bonuses. While this may sound fantastic on paper, call center work was misery. After 8 1/2 years, being laid off was a blessing. Although it was stressful at the time, I would quickly prevail. I took part of my retirement pay-out and went back to school. I fell in love with my Introduction to Welding Technology class. By my second semester, I steered away from pursuing an associates degree and concentrated full time in the welding technology classes. I was hired on as the student worker/intern in the weld lab and completed the program while working. Finally, I earned my Certificate in Welding Technology with a 3.9 GPA.

I jumped right into my welding career. Days after graduating, I joined a shop in Beloit, WI building stainless tanker trailers. Over the course of two years, I moved up to a lead/foreman position and padded my resume with assembly, fabrication, fit up, and welding. For a few years, I moved on to a small ASME code pipe shop a mile from my house. There, I quickly took over as supervisor in the weld shop. My new job provided me with experience in breaking down complex blueprints, quoting jobs, writing procedures, training and qualifying welders, and, of course, WELDING!

All of these opportunities paved the way for realizing my dream career. Now, I work full time for my previous weld instructor as his right-hand man in our two-man fabrication shop. I also have the privilege of teaching night classes at this excellent college with a great staff. It's an honor to pass on my ever-growing knowledge in welding technology and metallurgy to my students and future peers in this awesome career field.
