“Graduation is not the end,” says Rockford Career College graduate Dominic Boose. “It's the beginning.” As Dominic progressed through our medical assistant program, she never lost sight of her goal: graduating so she could help patients in her community. Thanks to her determination and tremendous effort, she graduated on the President's List with a 4.0 GPA. We are so proud of her for achieving her educational and professional goals!

What You Learn in a Medical Assistant Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Dominic took courses such as: MA Technology Fundamentals, Medical Office Emergencies, and Cardiac Care.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Microsoft Windows and its applications, such as desktop features, search capabilities, and file management, as well as creating, editing, and formatting documents and spreadsheets
  • Wound recognition and basic treatment, patient triage through primary assessment, the medical assistant’s role in emergency preparedness and response, and CPR and basic First Aid techniques and methods
  • The main body systems involved in cardiology (cardiovascular and respiratory); pulmonary issues including lung volume and capacity, pulmonary diseases, and airway obstructions; maintaining and operating electrocardiogram and pulmonary equipment; and identifying causes and corrections of artifacts
