Ever felt a new path calling your name? Have you thought about changing careers but were unsure about the risks versus the rewards? Many of us have experienced the same predicament, including some of Rockford Career College's faculty members. Today, we would like to share the story of Ms. Stefanie O'Dell, our own full-time veterinary technician instructor.

Ms. O'Dell graduated from Ball State University in 2000, but she did not originally intend to become a veterinary technician. Instead, her bachelor of arts degree was in French with a minor in communication studies. She used this degree during her year in Lillie, France. When Chrysler transferred her husband to Rockford, IL she discovered RCC. It was then that Ms. O'Dell decided to change careers from an online university's admissions advisor to the veterinary field. She knew her new vocation would make a difference in the lives of pets and their families, all while she became part of a growing field.

In 2013, Ms. O'Dell received her AAS veterinary technician degree, after passing her national licensing exam. Genoa Animal Hospital hired her as a certified veterinary technician upon completion of her externship there. She was then invited to come back to Rockford Career College as a lab assistant. Having great memories of the education and experience she received at RCC, Ms. O'Dell returned, becoming a full-time instructor in the veterinary technician program.

Everything Ms. O'Dell does reflects her genuine commitment to helping others, human or animal. She feels honored to make a difference in students' lives, and she particularly loves the “aha” moments she witnesses in classes on a daily basis. Outside of RCC, she continues to work at Genoa Animal Hospital as a weekend relief CVT. Even her free time is devoted to others, such as her husband, John, and chocolate lab, Ace.

Ms. O'Dell always enjoys helping prospective students! If you would like to speak with her, simply submit our Request Information form on this page or call 888.680.6682. An admissions representative will contact you to arrange a meeting. Come see for yourself how you can transform others' lives in this rewarding field. Maybe a career change is just what you need.
