We Proudly Present HVAC/R Graduate Michael Johnson
DATE On August 16, 2019

“You are your own limitation,” says Michael Johnson, Rockford Career College graduate. When he was ready for a new career, Michael did not allow himself to stand in his own way. Persevering through his classes, he graduated from our HVAC/R program on the President's List. We are extremely proud of his accomplishments and excited to see him succeed in his new career.

What You Learn in an HVAC/R Program

For each graduate highlight, we select three different courses to spotlight. During the program, Michael took courses such as: HVAC Essential Service Task and Piping, Fundamentals of Welding and Heat Pumps, and Troubleshooting HVAC.

In these courses, he learned about:

  • Leak detection, evacuation, recovery, and charging by the weight method, in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 104 requirements; identifying, joining, and assembling  carbon steel, materials, and fittings; and identifying, joining, and assembling the various plastic and copper piping materials and fittings.
  • Brazing and soldering skills commonly needed by the HVAC technician.
  • The skills needed to troubleshoot HVAC equipment such as gas-fired furnaces and boilers, oil-fired heating systems, and heating and cooling equipment.

Hands-on practice in the lab allowed Michael to gain a practical understanding of these techniques and prepare for the EPA certification exam.
