Graduate Highlight - Jonna Klapp - Medical Assistant
DATE On September 25, 2019

You've been dreaming of that perfect career for years now. You know exactly what company you would like to employ you, what area you want to specialize in, and what school you hope to attend. The only question left is, when will you start?

Jonna Klapp did not stop at envisioning a better future. Instead, she took steps to make it happen. Ms. Klapp enrolled in Rockford Career College's medical assistant program, passed all of her courses, and completed an externship. “I was hired on at Ortho Illinois,” says Ms. Klapp. “I was offered a position before I had even completed my externship.” Ms. Klapp is also proud to be a Certified Surgical Technologist.

Our Diploma in Medical Assistant program boasts a wide array of courses such as General Anatomy and Physiology, Administrative Procedures, Medical Office Emergencies, Medical Law for MA, Cardiac Care, and many more. However, it is during the 170-hour externship that students are truly able to develop their medical assistant skills. Hands-on learning in a local clinic, hospital, or physician's office for 160 of the externship hours allows students to practice what they have learned before graduating or seeking new jobs. Some students are even hired at their externship sites! As evidenced by Ms. Klapp's story, the externship could be the most valuable aspect of your learning experience at RCC.

We hope Ms. Klapp's story inspired you.
