Many employees only interact with human resource professionals during the initial job interview. However, an HR administrator's duties go far beyond interviewing candidates. My name is Katie, and I'm here to share my career in human resource administration with you.

What's a Typical Day Like for Human Resource Administrators?

It's true; some days, I start off by interviewing job applicants. Before interviewing, I prepare by reading resumes and discussing applicants' qualifications with my manager. After a qualified applicant has accepted a job offer, I take care of submitting the appropriate forms (such as direct deposit and tax information), conducting background checks, preparing the new employee orientation, answering questions, and providing benefits information.

My other duties include maintaining employee records, addressing employee concerns, and running errands (such as purchasing supplies or delivering mail). Occasionally, I travel to job fairs to recruit new employees. I also play a vital role as the bridge between management and the employees. Although I inform employees of new policy changes and events, I bring employee concerns and questions to management members just as often. It keeps me busy, but I enjoy helping the organization run a little more smoothly.

Where Do HR Professionals Usually Work?
