EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Sponsor an Extern Today

ATTENTION AREA PROFESSIONALS. Sponsor an Student/Extern today. Externships allow local professionals to share their expertise and experience while working with potential graduates who contribute directly to the employer’s work environment at no cost. Students are required to complete between 120 and 160 externship hours in a ten week period to be considered for graduation. The primary goal of externship is to expose a student to a professional setting that is within their degree program. The student graduates with hands on experience to put on their resume.

To get started, select the following Employer Job Form link below. For externships you will only need to complete the first half of the form. Please select Internship/Externship as the type of business and click on SUBMIT at the end of the form.

Our externships begin every ten week quarter. Consideration for externship is on a first come basis. Unfortunately, there are times when we may not have enough students ready for extern to fill all available positions. If that happens, your site will be considered for the next quarter. Any questions, please contact Danny Zittle in Career Services at 815-967-7306.

An externship is similar to an internship; however, there are some differences. Internships tend to cover a longer period of time with the intent of hiring. Our externships are less than three months in length and do not carry the expectation of employment or compensation. Again, this is an opportunity to expose a student to a professional setting within their community.Today more than ever, employers need to make sound hiring decisions that ensure their new employees are right for the job. What better way to see first hand the attributes of a potential employee than to have a student/extern on site. It’s truly a “Win – Win” situation. The employer gets to witness first hand, with no obligation, a potential employee. The student/extern is given the opportunity to gain on the job experience for his /her resume and gets to graduate.Degree programs include Business Administration, Accounting, Paralegal, Information Technology, Massage Therapy, Veterinary Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant & Medical Office Assistant. It is easy to get started. Again, please call 815-967-7306 if you have any questions.
